     * Maria de la Mercedes of Borbone, Countess of Barcelona, mother of Juan Carlos I King of Spain, recently died at the age of 89. She was of the Royal Family that ruled the Due Sicilie from 1734 to 1861. Her grandfather, Alfonso of Brobone, Count of Caserta, was born in Caserta in 1842 and died in Cannes in 1934. He was the son of Ferdinand II, penultimate King of the Due Sicilie (1810-1859) and brother of Frances II, last sovereign of the dynasty.
